T. J. Minogue was born in 1977 and raised in the northern suburbs of Melbourne. He has worked as a telemarketer, pizza chef, night auditor, aged care officer, medical scientist and research assistant. Thomas is a long-time writer but prior to 2011 his style was limited to technical and scientific reports.
In 2011 he switched to part-time employment to study Professional Writing and Editing at RMIT and he is currently working on a novel, from which this piece is an extract and which afforded him a Varuna Retreat Fellowship. His writing has since appeared in The Big Issue and he was shortlisted for the 2014 Overland Short Story Prize. T.J. currently resides in Melbourne’s western suburbs, where he lives with his partner and two dogs.
